As we receive more and more requests in English, we have created this landing page with the most important information about our organisation.

INFORMATION IN ENGLISH

What we do

We’re a non-profit organisation and work for the welfare of cats and kittens. We work daily to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome stray and unwanted cats and kittens that comes from farms, private households or from overburdened animal shelters. Our organisation consists of private foster homes where the cats receive veterinary care and are chipped and neutered. We then actively work to find a suitable new home for all our cats. Our adopted cats are visited in their new homes as part of a follow-up check. We also strictly control the neutering of kittens that have been placed.

We are always happy to advise (new) cat owners and answer any questions about keeping, feeding, vaccinating, neutering or breeding. All our members work on a voluntary basis and we rely on donations to help us fulfill our mission of saving as many cats as possible. All donations are directly used for the welfare of our cats (e.g. for food or for vet bills). We owe our success to our hard-working active members and our generous sponsors, passive members and donors.

If you are interested in adopting a cat

You can find all cats that need a new home here: https://www.katzenhaus-freunde.ch/placings. (currently only available in German). If you don’t understand German, please let us know and we will be happy to help. If you see one (or more) cats that you like, please fill out the adoption form (you can find it if you click on the cat and then click the Button «Katze besuchen / adoptieren». Please be aware that we follow the «first come, first serve» principle, so you may have to wait a while until we contact you. If you are the first person on the list, you will be able to visit our fostering home. Our private foster homes are spread all over Switzerland, so we first need to know which cat you want to visit in order to give you the right address.

Please note: If you won’t let your cat outdoors, you have to adopt two cats so that they have enough social contact with other cats. You are only allowed to adopt one cat if it is not an indoor cat (or if there’s already another cat in the household).

We also suggest that you take a look at the following page: https://www.katzenhaus-freunde.ch/private_placings. These cats currently still live with their owners but need a new home for various reasons. You can contact the current owners directly (contact details in the orange box if you click on a cat).

How to help

There are different ways on how you can support us:

Memberships (even just small amounts) are extremely valuable for us as they provide a stable and calculable source of income for our organisation. Passive members (CHF 45.- / year) and sponsors (individual monthly amount) support us purely financially. Active members (CHF 35.- / year) help us out with all the daily tasks.
